Published in 1911, this story of escaping to nature has remained relevant throughout the years by author Frances Hodgson Burnett’s ability to bring characters and their setting to life. The book was a favorite of mine growing up but I found that the design of today’s versions, in both in print and e-publishing, did not stand up to the beautiful story I fell in love with as a child.

Though it starts out dark and mysterious, in the end the tale is bright and joyful - this is what the Matisse style illustrations show.

I thought back to what appealed to me at a young age, a white page with small black text was not something the drew me in - making the book more editorial looking, with color and big quotes makes the story come to life not only for the young listeners but also for the adult e-readers.
